Ford is recalling approximately 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to a potential fire hazard linked to their fuel injectors. The affected models include 2021–2024 Bronco Sport and 2020–2022 Escape SUVs equipped with 1.5-liter turbocharged engines.

The Problem

Certain fuel injectors may crack, allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment. If the leaked fuel comes into contact with hot components, it could lead to an engine fire.

Recall Scope and Impact

This massive recall sets a new industry record for the most recalls issued by an automaker in a single year. The repair effort is expected to cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars and will be reflected in upcoming financial results.

Interim Fix and Next Steps

Ford will roll out an engine control software update designed to detect potential fuel leaks and reduce fire risk until a permanent solution is available. Notification letters to affected owners will begin in mid-August, followed by a second notice when the final repair is ready.

Although only a small percentage of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the defect, Ford is urging all owners to confirm whether their vehicle is included and to schedule the free repair as soon as possible.
